By Arun Sajnani,

SANJU – Well there you have it…You can like him or hate him…and Director – Raj Kumar Hirani has done it again. He along with a great narrative and screenplay by Abhijat Joshi brings you the many faces and the life of Sanjay Dutt, in “SANJU”.

Ranbir Kapoor is absolutely mind blowing as the Bollywood screen legend, Sanjay Dutt. He looks and makes you feel like you are watching Sanjay Dutt from his “Rocky” days to present. He suits the role all the way. Sanjay Dutt’s bio-pic shows that he has made some big mistakes in life, from drugs, to being arrested under the Tada and Arms Act -that too took his twenty years of life to fight it. He has done his time in jail. Sanjay Dutt had many affairs – over 350 or so. He has had his highs and lows. But the film shows that he is a flawed person, a human being that has paid his price for his mistakes.

The story shows him in a multi faceted way. His relationship with his father Sunil Dutt, played by Paresh Rawal, was not all so rosy in the beginning, but in the long run after his mother – Nargis Dutt’s demise, he was the pillar and the support system that led him through the tough times he had gone through when he had his court cases and Jail time. Ranbir Kapoor has given his best performance to date in his career with this film. He is award worthy, and has brought such mannerisms and style that leaves you in awe of him.

The details to the the time line from 1980 to present, with New York City settings, and to the time of his rise in the 90’s with Dutt’s Long hair look to his bicep looks, to his older grey hair bearded appearance is praise worthy. There is so much more to be told about this Star named Sanjay Dutt, that it could well be a mini-series.

In addition, all the supporting cast from Paresh Rawal, to Vicky Kaushal as his best friend, to Sonam Kapoor, to Anushka Sharma, to Manisha Koirala as Nargis Dutt, have given exceptional performances. I had met Nargis personally when I was a child, and I must say Manisha Koirala spoke with a lower tone that matched Nargis’s way of talking exactly. She may not look like her, but brought her back to life in the movie.

Even the settings of how New York was in the 80’s to Dutt’s choice of heavy rock music and partying, gives this biopic a great sense of detail that makes this film more authentic to his character.

Sanjay Dutt’s life was indeed a roller coaster ride. Now it is time for you to take that ride and see his journey on the Big Screen. The film gets a 4 star review. Highly recommended. Enjoy!! Courtesy AWESOME TV & BEING FILMY.
