By Arun Sajnani,

SOORMA – There indeed have been many predecessors in this genre of sports biopic, in bollywood, with films like “Chak De India”, “Iqbal”, “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”, but there many more unsung heroes to know, and do deserve their merit of recognition.

“SOORMA” is the story of a Punjabi Hockey player that got selected to play for the India Team. His name is Sandeep Singh. His family dream was for him to get Gold in the Olympics. He was known as the fastest “Flicker” that could hit several goals in a game.    What draws your attention is the film focuses on the the family, that supports him, and goes through the trauma as well when he gets injured before heading for a game. All his dreams, and love get shattered. What happens then?? Director Shaad Ali, of “Saathiya” & “Bunty Aur Babli” fame brings this subject on screen with great tenderness and sensitivity.

Diljit Dosanjh has put a lot of effort to play this Hockey player, and make him look believable. The film may be a small film but delivers that goal of overcoming your hardships in life.

The only wish I had was that the chemistry and love interest between him and Taapsee Pannu could have been developed further towards the end. It leaves the audience with an open ending. Lyrics by Gulzar, and particularly the song composed by Shankar-Eshaan-Loy – “Ishq Di Baajiyaan” – is a lovely song that will be on my mind for a while. Overall the film gets a 3 star recommendation. Enjoy!! Courtesy Awesome TV & BEING FILMY.
