THAPPAD – Director Anubhav Sinha may have had some mediocre success with films like “Dus” & “Ra One”, but with films that came after, with raising raising our moral conscience – with films like, “Mulk”, Article 15″, and now with “THAPPAD”, he has indeed evolved and has found his bearings as filmmaker in the Bollywood industry.

His treatment, narrative, and realism with “THAPPAD”, is indeed praiseworthy. We all need to respect and treat our better half with respect and dignity, especially your wife, or girlfriend.

The film revolves around one incident that takes place during a couples house party, where friends, and family come to celebrate the promotion of Vikram Sabharwal, played by Pavail Gulati. His promotion as a CEO to be posted in London gets sabotaged by his peers, and then goes downhill, when he finds out the position has been reduced to something else, and it that disappoints him. He gets irritated, and slaps his wife, as she tries to diffuse the situation. That incident is the premise of this film, and with that one slap, everything changes for Amrita, played by Taapsee Pannu. With all that, all love is lost, and she reevaluates her values and worth towards her husband, and family.

The acting is superb from Taapsee with memorable dialogues by her, and the entire cast. Everyone from, Kumud Mishra, Ratna Pathak Shah, and Tanvi Azmi, as the parents, give their weight to this subject with great sensibility, and subtlety as well. The film is a must see and gets a 4 star recommendation. Enjoy!!
