THE FOREIGNER

By Arun Sajnani,

THE FOREIGNER – Yes Jackie Chan is back in “THE FOREIGNER”, and he is getting older, but his martial arts is intact. Yes it is a vendetta film again, but he is more restrained in his performance and plays the role of a doting father who loses his daughter in a bomb blast in London. He is devastated.

The bombings are the works of the IRA. The film has a great back drop for a plot, where the audience gets to see the tension that still underlies with the political tensions between England and Ireland for the past decades. An accord can be broken unless it is resolved by a head honcho in the Government of Ireland, played by Pierce Brosnan.

Chan goes on a manhunt to see who are the people that have murdered his innocent teen-age daughter. The film could have become a predictable affair, but surprisingly it is Pierce Brosnan as a Politician that was previously a head of the IRA. He has more of a meatier role with great complexities. His role has to face problems with his family, with his cabinet, and with his personal affairs. He plays the Irish bad man perfectly. A man who is stuck between a rock and a hard place, when all his people around him betray him.

If you are here for a Jackie Chan flick, then you might be surprised to feel that you are here for a Brosnan film, who is the highlight. The film gets a 2 and half star review.  Courtesy Awesome TV & BEING FILMY.
