One Battle After Another Wins Big at 2025 LAFCA Awards

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) Awards in 2025 gave Best Picture to Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. This means that the movie is likely to be nominated for an Oscar, just like Anora was last year. Anderson also won Best Director, which shows how good the movie was at both telling a story and using technical skills. The awards, which were announced on December 7, 2025, have gender-neutral acting categories for the fourth year in a row.

Rose Byrne won Best Lead Performance for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. She shared the stage with Ethan Hawke in Blue Moon. Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value) and Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another) won the supporting honors. Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme) and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent) were also in the running.

Adolpho Veloso won Best Cinematography for “Train Dreams,” and Hannah Beachler made history as the first Black person to win Production Design for “Sinners.” Jafar Panahi’s “It Was Just an Accident” won Best Screenplay, and “Little Amélie or the Character of Rain” won Best Animation.

LAFCA also gave the Best Documentary award to “My Undesirable Friends: Part 1—Last Air in Moscow,” the New Generation Award to Eva Victor for “Sorry, Baby,” and special awards to Albert Serra for “Afternoons of Solitude” and Thom Andersen for his whole body of work. These picks often lead to Academy Award nominations, which gets people talking about the awards season early on.
