’56 Days’ Review: Dove Cameron & Avan Jogia Sizzle in Amazon Thriller

Today’s premiere of Prime Video’s newest gripping series, 56 Days, stars Dove Cameron and Avan Jogia. It mixes steamy romance with shocking murder mystery twists. This eight-episode erotic thriller is based on Catherine Ryan Howard’s best-selling book. Critics are raving about its high-stakes drama and Gen Z star power.

Ciara (Dove Cameron) and Oliver (Avan Jogia) are strangers who meet in a grocery store and start a passionate relationship right away. They move in together right away. Fifty-six days later, a body that has been brutally decomposed is found in Oliver’s apartment. This starts a tense investigation that goes back and forth between their whirlwind romance and the chilling investigation going on now. The series gets rid of the book’s COVID lockdown and replaces it with psychological isolation. It also raises the level of noir-style suspense and asks who the real killer is.

Dove Cameron plays Ciara in a haunting, broken way, going from Disney star to sultry thriller lead. Avan Jogia plays Oliver with a “off” edge that makes him charming. Karla Souza and Dorian Missick play detectives who add a gritty depth to the search for the killer. James Wan, a well-known horror director, is the executive producer of the show through his company Atomic Monster. The show has great visuals and a lot of tension that makes you want to watch it all at once.

Early reviews call 56 Days a “bingeable romance thriller” that grabs your attention from the first frame. However, some say it has “mild sparks” in a tone that is too cold. Today, all episodes are available only on Prime Video in over 240 countries. This is great news for fans of crazy, sexy crime dramas like Saltburn.
