Who Was Charlie Company? Meet the Real Heroes Behind Rezang La in Farhan Akhtar’s 120 Bahadur.

Farhan Akhtar stars as Major Shaitan Singh in this evocative tribute to India’s 1962 war heroes
Mumbai, 26 June 2025:

Prior to becoming a legend of unparalleled valor, Rezang La was merely a distant, snow-covered mountain pass in the vicinity of Chushul in eastern Ladakh. In 1962, this icy battlefield witnessed one of the most gallant last stands in Indian military history — commanded by Charlie Company of the 13 Kumaon Regiment.

The Battle That Made History

120 soldiers of Charlie Company were posted in November 1962 to hold the Chushul sector. Withstand harsh weather and high elevation, they repelled wave upon wave of Chinese attacks.

Under the command of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati (PVC), the troops cleared enemy waves on November 18. If Rezang La had been captured, the Chinese would have gained control over the critical Chushul airfield — a key strategic location.

Major Shaitan Singh: The Man Who Led With Courage

Major Shaitan Singh’s leadership was so inspiring that he received unflinching loyalty. He remained with his men until the last battle, showing courage for which he received the Param Vir Chakra posthumously.

Nowadays, his name is still commemorated in the military establishments as an icon of fearless leadership.

120 Bahadur: From Battlefield to Big Screen

Helmed by Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai, 120 Bahadur narrates the tale of this legendary battle. Farhan Akhtar plays Major Shaitan Singh, in a film that has been made by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar (Excel Entertainment), and Amit Chandrra (Trigger Happy Studios).

It’s not merely a war movie — it’s a salute to the men who fought with unparalleled courage.

A Salute to the Brave

Charlie Company’s sacrifice at Rezang La is a tale of grit, patriotism, and honour. 120 Bahadur brings their legacy to life for the next generation, reminding us of what bravery truly represents.

Released in cinemas later this year, the film is guaranteed to move, inspire, and incite pride.
