R. Madhavan Returns to Romance with Aap Jaisa Koi on Netflix: “Few Chances Left to Star in a Love Story”.

Mumbai, 14 July 2025 – Favourite actor R Madhavan, best known for his romantic classics, comes back to the genre with a bittersweet heart in Netflix’s Aap Jaisa Koi. But this is not fantasy romance like in his previous films — it’s a sweet, mature exploration of relationships in your 40s.

A Love Story Founded on Reality

In Aap Jaisa Koi, R Madhavan acts Shrirenu Tripathi, a 42-year-old teacher of Sanskrit in Jamshedpur. His life turns around when he encounters Madhu Bose (Fatima Sana Shaikh), an assertive French teacher in her 30s.

Directed by Vivek Soni (Meenakshi Sundareshwar), the movie is concerned with simple, true moments rather than overblown gestures. It presents a nice alternate take on love that develops as one ages, gains experience, and learns emotional honesty. This honest approach is why R Madhavan believed the film would resonate with audiences.

Why Madhavan Said Yes

“This wasn’t a matter of revisiting romance,” says R Madhavan. “It was a question of telling a story that’s suitable for my age and truthful. There are very few love stories left for actors my age — and even fewer that feel so genuine.”

Working with Fatima Sana Shaikh

Describing the experience as “too short,” R Madhavan says he had a responsibility to make their on-screen pairing look real.
“Fatima is charming, talented, and dynamic,” he says. “I have immense respect and love for her.”

Fatima chimes in, “Madhavan is highly intelligent emotionally. I learned so much from him every day.”

Discovering Equal Love

The movie delves into the concept of barabari wala pyaar — equal love.
“Shrirenu needs to overcome his own prejudice,” says R Madhavan. “A film like this has the potential to redefine the way we perceive relationships now.”

A Romance Necessitated

With its honest narrative and earthy performances, Aap Jaisa Koi adds depth and warmth to contemporary romance. R Madhavan’s comeback isn’t simply retro — it’s significant.
