The Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai actress, Samridhii Shukla, speaks out on relatable characters, influencer trends, and her desire to do a rom-com

Relatable Stories Win on TV Today

Actress Samridhii Shukla, who is currently a part of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, feels that today’s viewers relate more to the characters who are real. Samridhii Shukla believes that imperfection is the new trend.

“Glasses shows that are successful today are ones where the characters are flawed,” she explained.

She thinks perfection is so last season — and flaws are where it’s at, according to Samridhii Shukla.

“Even the lead characters can be flawed. That makes them human.”

Imperfection Is the New Authentic

Samridhii acknowledges these imperfect characters can get flak, but maintains that’s because they’re human.

“People don’t always make the right decisions. That’s what makes the story authentic and keeps our show fresh.”

On Influencer Culture: “Opportunity vs. Talent”

The actress also spoke about the increasing role of influencers in acting.

“They do get more opportunities, but what they do with them is what really matters.”

She further added that talent in acting still prevails over opportunity, a sentiment shared by her.

“If you’re an actionable influencer, great. If not, casting decisions will shift.”

Ahead of Time: Thrillers Instead of Rom-Coms (But Only for Now)

Although she loves thrillers as a television consumer, Samridhii is eager to do comedy as a performer.

“I’d love to do a thriller on OTT. But I really miss comedy — and would love to attempt a rom-com.”
