The Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) has announced its exciting lineup for the 22nd edition, scheduled to take place from February 25 to March 8, 2026. This year, the festival will feature a compelling retrospective program called “Truth to Power,” alongside a special focus on modern Swedish cinema.
Specifically, the “Truth to Power” retrospective will showcase ten important movies spanning from the 1930s to the present day. These films highlight characters who resist oppressive powers and courageously fight back against injustice. Among the standout titles are All the President’s Men (1976), celebrating its 50th anniversary, Stanley Kubrick’s satirical classic Dr. Strangelove (1964), and Ava DuVernay’s Oscar-nominated civil rights drama Selma (2014). Additionally, the lineup includes influential films like In the Name of the Father (1993), Erin Brockovich (2000), and the iconic anti-colonial movie The Battle of Algiers (1966).
Moreover, the festival will spotlight Swedish cinema through the “Take a Chance on Me: Swedish Cinema” program, presenting a diverse range of UK and Scottish premieres. This country focus features political satire Eagles of the Republic, the horror film The Home, sci-fi Egghead Republic, and the Cold War drama Redoubt. According to Paul Gallagher, head of programming for Glasgow Film, the idea for the retrospective was inspired by the legacy of Robert Redford, particularly his role as producer and actor in All the President’s Men. Consequently, the “Truth to Power” theme highlights filmmakers using powerful storytelling to confront corruption, power, and injustice.
