First Look: Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda Live-Action Movie Sets Release for May 2027

Nintendo fans have a reason to rejoice as the first official images of the live-action “The Legend of Zelda” movie have been revealed. The film stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda, both showcasing a cinematic and realistic version of the beloved video game world.

Directed by Wes Ball, known for “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” and produced by Nintendo icon Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad, the movie aims for a serious yet authentic tone. Zelda’s elegant blue robes are inspired by “Breath of the Wild,” while Link wears a rugged green tunic reminiscent of “Twilight Princess,” highlighting the film’s dedication to realism and adventure.

Filming took place in the stunning landscapes of New Zealand and Devon, England. The story follows Link and Zelda as they fight to save the kingdom of Hyrule from the demon king Ganon. This adaptation is expected to give Princess Zelda a larger role than in the games.

The screenplay was penned by Derek Connolly (“Jurassic World”) and T.S. Nowlin. With a release date set for May 7, 2027, this film marks a major step forward for Nintendo’s growing movie universe following the success of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” promising a thrilling blend of innovative filmmaking and classic Zelda charm.
