Kendrick Lamar and South Park Creators’ Comedy Movie Faces Indefinite Delay

The highly-anticipated untitled comedy film starring Kendrick Lamar and written by South Park’s Trey Parker and Matt Stone has hit yet another snag, as Paramount Pictures pushed the release date once again, but has yet to announce a new date. It was set for July 4, 2025, before it faced an initial delay to March 20, 2026; it’s now been taken off the release calendar at Paramount altogether due to continued production issues.

This delay was confirmed by a joint statement from Park County—the production company of Parker and Stone—and Lamar’s company PG Lang: “It’s true – we’re moving (again). We’re working hard at finishing the movie.” The move came in light of Lamar’s continued world tour through at least December 2025, and Parker and Stone were busy producing the current season of South Park. Those busy schedules have contributed to an extended production timeline.

The untitled film is said to be an original live-action comedy written by Vernon Chatman. The film will be produced by Lamar and Dave Free through PG Lang, with Parker and Stone producing for Park County. Despite the delays, Paramount and the creatives are still attached to finishing the project, which had generated excitement since its announcement for being among the most unique scripts executives at Paramount have read.

The project’s anxious fans will have to wait longer, as there was no date announced to replace it, keeping the hope high for this special collaboration between a huge music star and iconic animation creators.

This continuing delay might underline how big creative projects balance amidst very active touring and television production schedules. The challenge, really, has been to bring this peculiar comedy to worldwide screens.
