Imtiaz Ali Talks About Bringing Amar Singh Chamkila from Netflix to Life at the International Emmys

Attending the panel and medal ceremony at the 53rd International Emmy World Television Festival in New York are director Imtiaz Ali and producer Mohit Choudhary.

## At the International Emmys, Chamkila Shines

On November 23, Netflix’s Amar Singh Chamkila was nominated for two major International Emmys: TV Movie/Mini-Series and Best Performance by an Actor for Diljit Dosanjh.
The movie was represented at the panel and medal ceremony of the festival by director Imtiaz Ali and producer Mohit Choudhary. Their presence highlights the movie’s cultural influence and worldwide appeal.

## Netflix’s Assistance Changed the Movie

Imtiaz Ali discussed the film’s early difficulties during the panel. He explained how everything changed because of Netflix.

He declared, “Netflix’s contribution is exceptional and irreplaceable.”
Ali clarified that the group initially encountered a number of difficulties. However, things went more smoothly after Netflix joined in and the movie switched to a direct-to-digital release.
He continued, “I had the confidence to make the film exactly as I wanted because of their conviction and encouragement.”

## An Artist’s and Art’s Love Story

Imtiaz also disclosed the film’s emotional core.
He said, “I saw this as a love story between an artist and his art.”
He clarified that genuine performers ultimately create for the act itself rather than for fame or money. His portrayal of Chamkila, a man motivated solely by a desire to perform, was influenced by this notion.

## A Local Narrative With Worldwide Appeal

The director emphasised how the movie connected with viewers around the world while staying true to Punjab’s cultural landscape.
Netflix keeps promoting these deeply ingrained, impactful stories that appeal to all people.

## Netflix Talent Globally Recognised

Diego Vásquez, who was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor for his role as José Arcadio Buendía in Netflix’s One Hundred Years of Solitude, was also present at the panel.
His attendance strengthened Netflix’s powerful festival presence.
