Bandarful Films Announces Shweta Tripathi’s First Horror Film, Nava

Nava, actor-producer Shweta Tripathi’s first supernatural film under her Bandarful Films banner, marks a significant step into the horror genre. Moreover, the project—produced in collaboration with Kowatanda Films India—serves as her second major venture after the critically acclaimed queer drama Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, which starred Tilottama Shome.
With this new film, Shweta further advances her vision of promoting daring, unique and culturally rooted Indian narratives.

An Eerie Story Set in the Sundarbans

Set in the mysterious wetlands of the Sundarbans, Nava unfolds as Tara returns to her ancestral home. As she navigates her past, she gradually becomes entangled in an age-old mystery involving river gods, hidden family secrets and the blurred boundaries between myth and memory.
Additionally, the film—written by Akash Mohimen—promises a compelling fusion of atmospheric horror, folklore and deep emotional layers.

Shweta Tripathi on Selecting Horror

Sharing her excitement, Shweta Tripathi said, “Nava is a very special step for me as a producer.” She explained that after Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, which explored themes of identity and love, she naturally felt drawn toward an entirely different emotional landscape.
Furthermore, she emphasized that horror carries the power to move audiences in unexpected ways, especially when it is rooted in culture and folklore.

She also highlighted the Sundarbans’ crucial role in the narrative: “It’s not just a backdrop. It breathes, defends and threatens.” According to Shweta, the beauty, fear and soul of Akash’s script immediately captivated her.

Moreover, she underlined her commitment to supporting narratives that are layered and creatively bold—stories that continue to resonate long after the film ends. She added that collaborating with Kowatanda Films India brings a shared passion and unified creative vision to the project.

A Positive Development for Genre-Driven Indian Cinema

With Nava, Shweta continues her journey into production while reinforcing her focus on authentic, character-driven stories. In addition, the film highlights her dedication to genre experimentation and culturally rich storytelling.
Overall, Nava stands as a promising addition to India’s evolving landscape of genre-driven cinema.
