The event in Simi Valley, California, on October 25, 2025, went viral after photos and videos captured Keery in the nautical sailor outfit, full with the original costume lent from the show’s costume designer Amy Parris. Keery explained the fun backstory of the event during his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, adding that it was a full costume affair.
The ceremony went viral on social media; Keery was standing under a floral arbor with a microphone as the couple exchanged vows. He said, “By the power vested in me by the state of California-yesterday-I now pronounce you husband and wife,” adding some humor to the outdoor celebration. Keery’s bandmate in Post Animal, Williams, along with Capaldi, asked for the Steve Harrington look, and the event had all the guests attired in costumes ranging from The Riddler to Shrek.
Capaldi suggested Keery channel Steve Harrington, pointing out the Halloween timing was perfect for the memorable ice cream parlor ensemble. Keery recalled begging the Duffer Brothers to adjust the outfit during filming for practicality against Russians, but they insisted on keeping the full “look” with blouse and handkerchief. The original costume still fit mostly, though Keery admitted it felt “a little different” after all these years.
