Olivia Nuzzi Exits Vanity Fair Amid RFK Jr. Scandal

Vanity Fair and journalist Olivia Nuzzi have agreed to go their separate ways. Her contract as West Coast editor will end at the end of the year, after more attention was drawn to her alleged affair with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Nuzzi joined the magazine in September 2025, just three months before this decision was made. There was a lot of controversy over her being fired from New York Magazine for not disclosing her relationship.

Nuzzi, 32, became well-known as a Washington correspondent for New York Magazine. She wrote about RFK Jr., who is now the Secretary of Health and Human Services, during his 2024 presidential campaign. In 2024, reports came out that she had a personal relationship with Kennedy, who was 71 and married to actress Cheryl Hines. As a result, New York Magazine put her on leave, even though an internal investigation found no bias or inaccuracies. In October 2024, she and the outlet broke up.

Nuzzi’s time at Vanity Fair came to an end when her ex-fiancé Ryan Lizza made new accusations, saying he was more involved with Kennedy and another profile subject. Her memoir “American Canto,” which came out on December 2, 2025, talks about the scandal, but it hasn’t sold well. Parts of it have already been published in Vanity Fair. In their joint statement on Friday, both sides said they were acting in the magazine’s best interests.
