Lucid Gravity SUV Launch: High Stakes in 2025 EV Market

Lucid Motors is increasing production of its high-end three-row Gravity SUV in order to boost sales after delivering just over 300 units through the third quarter of 2025. The car costs between $79,900 and $96,550 and is aimed at luxury buyers. It has a range of up to 450 miles and more than 800 horsepower in Grand Touring trim. Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff says that problems have been fixed and demand is rising, with most buyers choosing configurations that cost more than $100,000.

Gravity’s launch in late 2025 was delayed because of problems with getting parts and safety concerns with early builds, which limited production at Lucid’s Arizona plant. Overall, Lucid made 2,213 vehicles in the first quarter of 2025, which set delivery records. However, Gravity customer handovers slowly started up again by April. Executives are now sure they can handle more orders, so they’re switching their attention from sedan-like Air to family-friendly SUVs.

Lucid thinks that Gravity will get six times as many customers as the Air sedan. This is because SUVs are popular right now, but premium EV sedans aren’t. A less expensive Touring trim will come out in late 2025 for about $81,550, which is about the same price as the Tesla Model Y. The company says that their batteries are 30 to 40% more efficient, which means they can go farther with smaller batteries. This could help them make more money at scale.

Lucid wants to boost sales with a mid-size $50,000 crossover, as well as partnerships with Uber and Nuro for self-driving cars and robotaxis. The EV industry is slowing down and tax credits are going away, so making money depends on how well you do and how much demand there is. Winterhoff says this is a way to run a business that will last.
