Russell Brand Faces New Rape, Sexual Assault Charges: UK Court Update

Russell Brand, a British comedian and actor, has been charged with two more sex crimes in the U.K. These include one count of rape and one count of sexual assault based on claims from two other women. The Crown Prosecution Service said that the new charges come after London’s Metropolitan Police looked into old sex crime allegations against the 50-year-old star.

Prosecutors say that the new charges are based on events that are said to have happened in 2009 and are not related to the five charges Brand already faces from four other women between 1999 and 2005. Brand is now facing seven charges, including multiple counts of rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault. These charges cover a decade of alleged wrongdoing involving six women.

Officials said that Brand will go to Westminster Magistrates’ Court in January for a hearing on the newest charges. This will happen before his full criminal trial, which is set to start in 2026. The CPS made it clear that the criminal case is still going on and asked the public and the media not to report or comment online in any way that could hurt the defendant’s right to a fair trial.

Brand has already said he is not guilty of the earlier charges of rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault, and he has publicly denied all accusations of criminal wrongdoing. The most recent events have brought even more attention to the former TV host and Hollywood actor, whose behavior has been under investigation since several women came forward after a media report in 2023.
