In just 17 days, Zootopia 2 made over $1 billion at the global box office. This made it the fastest PG-rated and animated movie in Hollywood history to do so. The sequel, which was directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, made $986.1 million by that point, with $232.7 million coming from the US and $753.4 million from other countries. This is Disney’s second $1 billion movie of 2025, after Lilo & Stitch.
The movie had a huge global opening of $559.5 million over five days, with $158 million coming from the US. This made it the biggest animated opening ever and Disney’s biggest opening. It did better than other hits like Moana 2 and had the fourth-largest global opening ever. International markets were a big part of the success, breaking Avengers: Endgame’s record for the most money made in a single day in China.
Zootopia 2 made more than $500 million in China, breaking the record for the most money made by an imported film in a single day on a Saturday with ¥553 million ($78.2 million). By the end of December, the total for the rest of the world was $877.7 million, bringing the total for the whole world to more than $1.13 billion and more than the original Zootopia’s $1.025 billion lifetime gross. In 2025, it will be the best international MPA release.
Zootopia 2 made $26 million in its third weekend, bringing its total to $257.6 million in the U.S. and $1.137 billion worldwide. The sequel is now the seventh-highest-grossing animated movie of all time, thanks to a 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and an A CinemaScore that spread the word. It keeps bringing in crowds after Thanksgiving, cementing Disney Animation’s place at the top of the box office.
