NBC has given the go-ahead for an exciting unnamed comedy pilot that stars Jane Lynch and Katey Sagal as Ginger and Jill, two best friends and therapists. The two characters are very different from each other, but they work well together. As they think about their past and future, they realize they wouldn’t change a thing.
Kari Lizer, who is known for The New Adventures of Old Christine, made the multi-cam sitcom. It is loosely based on real-life therapists Pepper Schwartz and Janet Lever, who are also consulting producers. Lizer, Lynch, Sagal, Krista Vernoff from Grey’s Anatomy (who worked with Sagal on Rebel), Andrew Stearn, and Alexandre Schmitt from Trip the Light Productions are all executive producers. This is NBC’s first pilot from an outside studio this season. It was made by Paramount Television Studios.
This project is one of two new NBC comedy pilots, along with Gail Lerner’s Newlyweds (with Jamie Lee Curtis as EP). For the 2026-27 season, the network will have eight pilots: three comedies and five dramas. NBC wants to bring back the excitement of traditional pilot season and get more broadcast orders than last year. The pilot could go well with Reba McEntire’s Happy’s Place on NBC.
