Savannah Guthrie Mom Nancy Missing: Man Detained in Kidnapping Case

Around 9:30 p.m. on January 31, 2026, Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona’s Catalina Foothills. At 1:47 a.m., the surveillance camera showed that her doorbell was off. At 2:12 a.m., it showed that there was motion, and her pacemaker lost phone connection soon after. The blood on the porch was confirmed to be hers. On February 1, at noon, her family reported her missing after she didn’t show up for church. This changed the case to a criminal investigation into possible kidnapping.

According to reports, the kidnappers wanted $6 million by February 9 and threatened her life. The FBI confirmed the messages and offered a $50,000 reward. Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of the TODAY show, posted emotional videos on Instagram asking for her mother’s return. She said, “We need your help,” and promised the captors that the family would pay. She stressed the importance of believing that Nancy would survive despite her health problems.

As of February 10, a man was in custody for questioning. Pima County Sheriff’s deputies were going door-to-door in neighborhoods, and the FBI said they were making “substantial progress.” President Donald Trump told federal agencies to help, and search teams used K-9s, drones, and aerial support, but they didn’t find anything. People in the community are sending prayers, and TODAY viewers are too.
