Netflix Films Stranger Things Broadway for Streaming

Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions are now filming “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway. The show will be available to stream on Netflix in the future. Performances were stopped from February 10 to 14, 2026, to get the original cast before they left on March 29. Shows started up again on February 15. There hasn’t been an exact date for streaming yet.

Kate Trefry wrote the play, which is set in 1959 and tells the story of young Henry Creel as he becomes Vecna. It is a prequel to Stranger Things seasons 1–5. It opened on Broadway on April 22, 2025, after a run in London that began in December 2023. Stephen Daldry directed it and Justin Martin co-directed it. It’s now part of the official story, filling in important holes in the series’ plot.

The show has been a huge success, making $1.4 million in the last week alone and ranking among the top earners on Broadway, thanks to the release of Stranger Things Season 5. In 2025, it won four Tony Awards, more than any other play that year. In the April 2025 behind-the-scenes special “Behind the Curtain: Stranger Things – The First Shadow,” Netflix talked about how it was made.
