Susan Sarandon, an Oscar-winning actress, said that Hollywood basically banned her after she called for a ceasefire in Gaza. In November 2023, her U.S. agency, United Talent Agency (UTA), dropped her after she made controversial comments at a pro-Palestinian rally in Union Square in New York City. Sarandon said, “My agency fired me because I marched and spoke out about Gaza and called for a ceasefire.” This made it almost impossible for her to appear on TV and in big movies.
Sarandon compared the fears of Jewish Americans during the Israel-Hamas conflict to those of Muslims facing violence, which made a lot of people angry. Soon after, UTA ended their relationship, so she got a lawyer in England and Italy, where she still works. She later said she was sorry for downplaying the experiences of Jewish people and for any pain she may have caused while standing up to bigotry.
Sarandon shared this information before she won the International Goya Award at Spain’s 40th Goya Awards on February 28, 2026. The award honored her work in movies like “Thelma & Louise” and “Dead Man Walking.” Even though the U.S. government was shut down, she praised countries like Ireland for their “moral clarity” on the issue and talked about how hard it is to speak out in Hollywood. She still doesn’t know if things have gotten better for job seekers in the US as of early 2026. Susan Sarandon says Hollywood turned its back on her after she called for a ceasefire in Gaza.
