Ryan Gosling hosted Saturday Night Live on March 7, 2026. He gave his opening monologue while also promoting his sci-fi movie Project Hail Mary. Just a few minutes in, global pop star Harry Styles surprised everyone by casually showing up in the audience, stealing the show, and making the segment into comedy gold. Gosling saw Styles and jokingly asked him what he was doing there. Styles said he wanted to “get a feel for it” before hosting and performing as a musical guest the next week.
The conversation got worse when Gosling made a mistake and called his movie “Project Harry Styles” and made fun of feeling overshadowed by the “too cool” singer. Styles wore a cheeky “I hate you” t-shirt with a smiley face on it, and the cameras kept cutting to him, which kept Gosling from focusing. Gosling even tried to do a musical bit based on his viral “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie, quoting lines from Styles’ “Sign of the Times” before saying it was weird to do it in front of the real artist.
The unscripted chaos ended when SNL cast members came on stage and said they were there for Styles, not Gosling. This made the viral hilarity even bigger online.
