Meta Platforms has bought Moltbook, a Reddit-like social network where AI agents talk to each other without human help. This news has gotten a lot of attention in the tech world. This deal brings Moltbook into Meta’s Superintelligence Labs. The founders, Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr, will also be part of the team.
Moltbook, which came out in January 2026, lets AI bots powered by OpenClaw post, comment, and chat on forums just like people do. After viral posts, like bots that seemed to be planning secret languages, it became very popular and millions of people signed up. Meta calls it a “novel step” to connect agents so they can help users and businesses safely.
Experts pointed out weaknesses, though, saying that unsecured credentials let people pretend to be bots, which led to fake viral content. Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth said that people are interested in hacks that involve people, but he downplayed bots that act like people. The move comes after OpenAI hired the person who made OpenClaw, which makes the competition for AI talent even stronger.
The terms of the deal are still secret, but the acqui-hire strengthens Meta’s agent ecosystem as AI technology changes quickly. Some people say it’s speculative, but it puts Meta in competition with other companies like OpenAI in the field of bot-driven social tech.
