CBS News is getting ready for big layoffs. Editor-in-chief Bari Weiss is leading a major overhaul of the newsroom that will cut at least 15% of the staff. This comes after earlier rounds of cuts at Paramount, which saw about 100 jobs cut in late 2025. These cuts affected streaming shows like “Evening News Plus” and “CBS Saturday Morning,” as well as foreign bureaus and the race and culture unit.
The expected spring cuts, which will happen between March and May 2026, are a result of Paramount’s efforts to save money after it merged with Skydance under David Ellison’s leadership. Weiss, who told staff during previous layoffs that it was a “enormously difficult day,” is still changing the division for the streaming era. This is happening despite reports of tensions within the company, such as staff leaving through buyouts and accusations of self-censorship.
These changes are similar to problems that are happening in the media as a whole. For example, CBS is changing to keep up with digital changes and financial pressures, just like The Washington Post’s recent cuts. Sources say that the talks were serious, which means that CBS News will have more trouble in the future.
