They Will Kill You Review: Zazie Beetz Horror Hit at Sundance

They Will Kill You, a scary indie horror thriller with Zazie Beetz (Joker, Atlanta) and Myha’la Herrold (Industry), is getting a lot of attention after its Sundance premiere on March 27, 2026. This Airbnb-gone-wrong nightmare is directed by Nacita Coronado in her first feature film. It mixes sharp social satire with nonstop tension. As a result, it has gotten a lot of attention as one of Zazie Beetz’s breakout movies of 2026.

The movie is about Nora (Beetz), a struggling writer who goes to a remote New York estate owned by the strange Emory (Herrold) to get away from it all. What starts out as a nice getaway turns into a nightmare when hidden cameras show the house’s dark secrets. Meanwhile, Coronado expertly builds up paranoia, using real-life true crime stories like the “Amityville Horror.” She adds a modern millennial fear to them. It’s like social media voyeurism meets cult-like isolation.

Zazie Beetz gives her best performance as Nora, a character whose vulnerability hides her strong survival instincts. These instincts are at the heart of the film’s emotional core. Emory, played by Myha’la Herrold, is a character who is ready for awards talk. She switches between quirky charm and crazy threat. David Jonsson and Tom Segura’s supporting roles add to the unease. Therefore, They Will Kill You is a great place to see up-and-coming indie horror talent.

The official They Will Kill You trailer has already gone viral, with over 2 million views. It has pulsing synth scores and jump scares that remind me of Get Out and Ready or Not. Rated Neon for gore and gorehounds, it will have a limited run in theaters this spring through IFC Films. After that, it will be available to stream on Shudder.
