Actress Aarvika Gupta is gaining praise for her powerful role in the crime drama series Chidiya Udd, now streaming on Amazon. In the series, Gupta plays Champa, a drug-addicted, HIV-positive sex worker. Her transformation for the role was so dramatic that even the cast and crew didn’t recognize her on set.
A Raw and Gritty Character
Gupta explains the intensity of her character, saying, “Champa is far from glamorous. I had to look weak and unkempt to fit the role. I avoided food and water to appear frail and wore a dirty, simple salwar suit.”
The Makeup Magic
The actress credits the makeup team for the transformation. “They darkened my skin tone, added marks and pimples, and gave me rough, unhealthy skin. My hair was backcombed to make it look messy and damaged. It took 2-3 hours to perfect every detail,” Gupta reveals.
The First Day on Set
Gupta recalls her first shot in full makeup and costume. “When you look the part, half the battle is won. Your performance matters, but looking like the character makes a huge difference,” she says.
Chidiya Udd: A Career Milestone
Directed by Ravi Jadhav and based on Aabid Surti’s novel Cages, Chidiya Udd dives into Mumbai’s underworld. Gupta’s portrayal of Champa has earned rave reviews. “This role is special to me, and the feedback has been incredible,” she adds.
