Actor Aiman Kalia, known for his role as Yash in Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, recently opened up about his path to acting, revealing the challenges he faced and the determination that kept him going.
Early Bollywood Dreams
From a young age, Aiman was captivated by Bollywood. He recalls, “I was always a huge Shah Rukh Khan fan and loved films. Growing up, I either wanted to be an actor or a pilot.” But like many, his career path took a turn during his school years.
From Science to Acting
Aiman chose to study Physics, Chemistry, and Math (PCM) in school, influenced by his peers who were aiming for engineering. “At that time, I wasn’t clear about my future, so I just followed the flow,” he says. But after his board exams, his passion for acting resurfaced.
Taking the Leap into Acting
“I had been involved in street plays and theatre in school, and I realized I wanted to pursue acting seriously,” Aiman shares. He boldly told his parents about his dream. “They were shocked at first. In many Indian families, the path after science is engineering, followed by an MBA. But I convinced them to support my decision.”
The Early Struggles
Starting his acting journey was far from easy. “In the beginning, the biggest challenge was not knowing who to approach for auditions,” Aiman explains. “You’d hear about a show or movie, but had no idea which casting director to contact.”
Auditions and the Pandemic
Before the pandemic, actors had to physically line up for auditions, often waiting to see if they were even considered for a role. However, the COVID-19 lockdown changed everything. “When everything shut down, there were no auditions, and we had no idea where to go or how to get noticed,” says Aiman.
Challenges for Newcomers
Aiman describes the frustration of trying to reach casting directors. “I’d spend days finding their contact numbers, but even then, I’d rarely get a reply. It was tough just to get your foot in the door,” he recalls.
Resilience Through Struggles
Despite the hardships, Aiman remains hopeful. “This struggle wasn’t just mine; many newcomers faced the same challenges,” he says. His journey is a reminder that success in the entertainment industry requires persistence and resilience.
Aiman’s story continues to inspire aspiring actors, proving that with dedication, even the toughest paths can lead to success.
