Leeds, June 20, 2025: India came out swinging on Day 1 of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy! After England chose to bowl first on a super hot day in Leeds, India piled up a massive 359/3.
🔥 Jaiswal and Gill Lead the Charge
Yashasvi Jaiswal looked totally in control, smashing 101 off 158 balls, including 16 impressive fours. Ben Stokes eventually got him out.
But Shubman Gill, making his debut as captain in a Test match, was the real star. He’s still in, unbeaten on 127 from 175 balls – his first century outside of Asia! Gill really held the innings together through that final session.
⚡ Pant Adds the Fireworks
Rishabh Pant, filling in as wicketkeeper, chipped in with a quick-fire 65 off just 102 balls. He even launched Chris Woakes for a huge six, getting India past that 350 mark.
🎯 England’s Bowlers Struggle
It wasn’t a great day for the England bowlers. The pitch was flat, the outfield was lightning fast, and they just couldn’t get much going. Ben Stokes (2/43) and Shoaib Bashir showed some promise, but the pace bowlers were leaking runs.
