Michael Bauman Wins Top ASC Award for ‘One Battle After Another’ 2026

Michael Bauman won the 40th Annual American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film for his amazing work on One Battle After Another. This win shows how well the movie was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn. It solidifies its place as the front-runner for the Oscars.

Bauman’s win is better than strong competitors like Autumn Durald Arkapaw for “Sinners,” Darius Khondji for “Marty Supreme,” Dan Laustsen for “Frankenstein,” and Adolpho Veloso for “Train Dreams.” Matthew J. Lloyd for “Trial and Error” and Adam Newport-Berra for “The Studio” were both nominated for their work on “Government Cheese” and “The Oner,” respectively.

Robert Yeoman, ASC, won the Lifetime Achievement Award for his famous work with Wes Anderson on movies like The Grand Budapest Hotel. Jeff Cronenweth won an award for Ariana Grande’s “Supernatural” in the Spotlight, Documentary, and Music Video Awards.

In the past, the ASC’s winner for Best Cinematography has been the same as the Oscar winner about 46% of the time. Bauman’s win puts One Battle After Another in a strong position, following recent trends where Academy picks like Edward Lachman for Maria had an impact on nominations. The Beverly Hilton hosted the event on March 8, 2026, to show off the movie visuals from 2025.
