BarkBox Dogs Direct Viral Christmas Ad “Merry Chaos”

BARK, the best dog subscription brand, has changed the way holiday ads are made by letting dogs be in charge of the new “Merry Chaos” commercial. This holiday ad, which is said to be the first one made just for dogs, shows the happy chaos of Christmas from a dog’s point of view, with wrapping paper being ripped apart and ornaments being used as chew toys. The campaign says no to polished perfection and yes to real, messy holiday fun with pets.

Mia, an Australian Shepherd and Pitbull mix, was the unusual director. She is said to have eaten the vision board and ignored call times during filming. The ad cost 230% more than planned because they had to strap GoPros to dogs, ruin carpets, and hold therapy sessions for the crew, all in the name of real dog-led storytelling. Mikkel Holm, BARK’s Chief Creative Officer, praised Mia’s unwavering vision and how it fits with the brand’s goal of letting dogs run the show.

Campaign Links to Bigger Push for Dog Ownership “Merry Chaos” starts at the same time as BARK’s “Dogs Own the Holidays” campaign and the announcement of Chairdog Hendrix, which is part of the company’s co-ownership by dogs platform. The ad is for the “Winter Wooferland” BarkBox theme for December, which is full of holiday toys and treats. It plays on streaming services and social media, encouraging pet owners to embrace the holiday chaos.

This dog-written ad is different from traditional staged ads because it shows real holiday pet behavior, like licking lenses and turning dinner tables into problems. “Sound Design: Bark, Sniff, Crunch” and “Executive Producer: Hendrix the Dog” are funny production credits that show how playful the rebellion is.
