On March 18, 2026, at the “Next on Netflix” event, Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, talked directly about recent rumors of problems with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. She denied that Netflix executives were upset and ready to cut ties with the couple’s Archewell Productions, as a Variety report claimed.
Bajaria told the audience to check the facts in news stories and said, “Don’t believe everything you read.” We should all check the facts, maybe. She said they were still working together, saying, “We have movies in development with them,” which went against stories of a complete breakup.
Netflix representatives said the same thing, calling the claims from insiders “absolutely inaccurate” and praising Archewell as a “thoughtful and collaborative partner.” Bajaria also said that Harry and Meghan bring a “unique, global perspective” to projects that make a difference.
The March 17, 2026, Variety article that started the controversy said that communication problems, surprise announcements like the 2021 Oprah interview, and Harry’s 2023 memoir Spare caused tensions, which led to a supposed “we’re done” mood at Netflix. Insiders said that executives like Bajaria and co-CEO Ted Sarandos got tired of the job, especially after projects like Harry & Meghan and With Love, Meghan didn’t do well.
Even though the original $100 million deal signed in 2020 is coming to an end, Bajaria’s response shows that there will still be selective partnerships with other brands besides As Ever, which Netflix recently ended on its own.
