Berlinale 2026 Sidebar Juries: Sofia Alaoui Leads Perspectives Panel

The 76th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) will take place from February 12 to 22, 2026. The festival has announced its sidebar juries for the Perspectives, Documentary, Generation, and Shorts sections. These panels will give out prizes in their own categories to recognize new and niche films.

The Jury for Perspectives The jury for Perspectives is made up of Moroccan filmmaker Sofia Alaoui, German director Frédéric Hambalek, and Polish-Canadian programmer Dorota Lech. This sidebar will pick winners from first-time narrative features.

The Generation International Jury includes Indonesian director Khozy Rizal, German actress Lena Urzendowsky, and Sundance Programming Director Kim Yutani. They give out a €7,500 Grand Prix and a €2,500 Short Film prize. The Shorts Jury, which includes director A.Fak Eldin, critic Gris, and artist Gabriele Stötzer, picks the Gold and Silver Bears and the nominees for the European Film Awards. The documentary jury is made up of directors Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese, Shaunak Sen, and critic B. Ruby Rich.

The main jury, led by President Wim Wenders, will choose the Golden and Silver Bears from 22 films. The jury includes Indian filmmaker Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, South Korean actress Bae Doona, and Japanese director Hikari. This makes people more excited about the festival’s top awards.
