Brinda Dahal Shares Her Makar Sankranti Experience

Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya actress Brinda Dahal recently shared her Makar Sankranti experience, offering a glimpse into how the festival is celebrated in Nepal and her exciting first-time kite flying adventure in India.

Makar Sankranti Celebrations in Nepal

Brinda explained that Makar Sankranti is celebrated differently in Nepal. “We make chikki, laddoos, and dishes like dahi chura and gud chura. Kids also block roads with ropes, demanding money from passersby while chanting ‘Shiv Parvati Ki Jai’ with a small idol of Lord Shiva and Parvati,” she said.

For Brinda, this year’s Makar Sankranti was special. “Flying kites isn’t part of our tradition in Nepal, so it was my first time flying one. My co-actors taught me, and though my hands got sore, it was so much fun!” she shared.

Learning New Traditions

Brinda also embraced new customs while on set, including offering bhog to God and serving food to Brahmins—traditions she had never experienced in Nepal. “I learned that Makar Sankranti is celebrated in different ways across regions,” she added.

The Excitement of “Kai Po Che!”

One of the highlights for Brinda was learning the phrase “Kai Po Che!” “During the shoot, my co-actors kept shouting it when a kite was cut. I was curious, and they explained it’s used when someone’s kite is cut. It was a fun discovery,” Brinda said.
