Bronsteins: Power Couple Fuels Marty Supreme Oscar Buzz

Mary and Ronald Bronstein met in the early 2000s when Ronald was directing the movie Yeast for the first time and Mary was acting in a major role during her last week of college. Their partnership mixed work and personal life. Later, Ronald worked closely with Josh Safdie on indie hits like Good Time and Uncut Gems. Mary took a step back to raise their kids while Ronald got better at writing and editing.

Now the couple is on equal footing. Ronald got his first Golden Globe nomination for producing, co-writing, and editing Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme, a ping-pong comedy-drama set in the 1950s and starring Timothée Chalamet. The movie is based on the life of table tennis legend Marty Reisman. Mary is in charge of her daring return. If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is a psychological drama with Rose Byrne that looks at a mother’s existential crisis. It’s her first feature film since Yeast. Both projects are getting a lot of Oscar buzz, making the Bronssteins the hottest couple of the season.

Marty Supreme is about a shoe salesman named Marty Mauser who is trying to win ping-pong glory by cheating and stealing. Gwyneth Paltrow plays a movie star who is in his orbit, and the movie has gotten great reviews saying it is new, funny, and exciting. Critics love its fast pace and Chalamet’s great acting, and the movie comes out in theaters on December 25, 2025, when it will be on a lot of best-of lists.
