Mumbai, May 2025Subhash Ghai, founder of Whistling Woods International (WWI), kicked off the Cadence Music Festival 2025 with a powerful tribute to Mohammed Rafi on his 100th birth anniversary.

Mohd Rafi Music Scholarship Announced

At the event, Ghai announced the launch of the Mohd Rafi Music Scholarship, a merit-based annual award for students of the WWI School of Music. The scholarship aims to support and inspire future musical talent while preserving Rafi Saahab’s iconic legacy.

A Night of Tributes and Memories

The evening brought together music lovers, industry veterans, and dignitaries. In attendance were Shahid Mohd. Rafi, son of the legendary singer, acclaimed artist Sonu Nigam, and MLA Ashish Shelar.

Subhash Ghai: “Rafi Saahab’s Voice Had a Soul”

Recalling his childhood memory, Subhash Ghai said:

“At eight, I was asked to sing, and I hummed Rafi Saahab’s song. His voice had a soul. This scholarship is our tribute to him and a gift to the next generation of singers.”

Sonu Nigam: “Rafi Saahab Was an Institution”

Sonu Nigam, emotionally moved, said:

“There’s no singer today who hasn’t learned from Rafi Saahab. His voice, his modulation—unmatched. Alongside Lata ji, he was one of the few with a divine voice.”

Shahid Rafi: “He Lived for Music Alone”

Shahid Mohd. Rafi thanked WWI for honouring his father:

“Abba never went to parties. He lived only for music. This scholarship is a beautiful way to remember him.”

Ashish Shelar: “Rafi Saahab Was an Emotion”

Ashish Shelar praised Rafi’s lasting impact:

“People went to theatres just for his songs. Many careers were built on his voice. I’ll always be his fan.”
