Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi Puts Colour in the Kitchen with His Symbolic Style.

Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi, the Laughter Chefs Judge, discusses fashion, turbans, and being himself.

Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi is more than famous for his cooking skills — his colourful chef jackets and bright-coloured turbans have become his trademark on Laughter Chefs: Unlimited Entertainment. His fashion sense is bold and lives up to his dynamic personality, adding energy to the TV screen.

Trading the White Coat for Colour

Traditionally, white is worn by chefs to portray discipline and cleanliness. But Harpal had other plans.

“I own about 10 white coats, but close to 60 coloured ones,” he says. “They give a different energy and mirror who I am.”

For Harpal, colour brings in fun, positivity, and personality to the kitchen environment.

Inspired by Inner Vibrance

The chef’s attire isn’t about putting on a show — it’s personal.

“I’ve always been colourful inside. Wearing bright coats is for me. But seeing others do it too makes me happy.”

He thinks clothing can be as vibrant and expressive as the food we consume.

Turbans with a Twist

Harpal’s bright turbans are as much a part of his image as his coats. Frequently colour-matched to his outfits, they also capture his personality and pride in his Sikh heritage.

“I have around 50 to 60 turbans. Pairing them with shirts or jeans is half the fun.”

His two-tone turbans are the most eye-catching.

“When I experimented with two colours for the first time, it suited me. It’s become an integral aspect of my style and gives me more confidence.”

Fashion with a Purpose

While trend-followers would just follow anything, Harpal remains true to what feels authentic to him.

“I don’t do trends. My look is about authenticity — as a chef and as a Sikh.”

His distinctive wardrobe is not about fashion alone — it’s an embracing of identity, culture, and expression.
