Chetan Hansraj fronts Kaal Nagari, India’s first ever completely AI-produced web series, now streaming on ALTT. The show fuses cutting-edge tech with impactful storytelling, setting India at the forefront of AI-based entertainment.
“We didn’t wait for America. We just did it ourselves,” Chetan said.
Young Team, Big Vision
The series was made in just two and a half months by a team of 8–9 individuals—all under 25. Despite challenges, the team’s energy and commitment helped bring this ambitious project to life, with Chetan Hansraj as the lead.
“They said, ‘Sir, we’ll make it.’ And they did,” he added.
A Futuristic Storyline Set in Mumbai
Kaal Nagari is set in Mumbai 30–40 years from now. It narrates the story of a journalist, Chhatrapati, a detective, and a truthful cop who fight against a crime syndicate which has captured the city, featuring star Chetan Hansraj.
“The characters came to us like they were sent from above,” Chetan revealed.
AI with a Human Soul
This series is unlike most AI content since it contains real performances. Chetan’s movements, expressions, and emotions were transferred onto a digital character, bringing his artistry to life.
“People think AI replaces actors—but I performed every scene. The soul is still mine,” he said.
Creating Jobs, Not Replacing Them
Chetan feels AI can unlock new possibilities in entertainment. The project provided a platform for new actors and, in the future, could have digital copies of non-actors as well, potentially including more talent like Chetan Hansraj.
“We’ll scan people, pay them, and use their likeness. Vision is the only limit now.”
Short-Form Content is the Future
Kaal Nagari also leverages the micro-drama trend. Each episode is a mere 2–3 minutes long—great for today’s high-speed audience and featuring compelling performances from actors like Chetan Hansraj.
“People don’t want long episodes. Give them gripping content in small doses,” he said.
India Leads the Way in AI Entertainment
