Producer Mitu

Mumbai, April 2025 – Celebrated producer and storyteller Mitu has always been known for her creative edge in the entertainment industry. But off-screen, she carries another identity—a lifelong cricket enthusiast. This IPL season, she found herself back at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, cheering for her favorite teams after nearly 40 years.

A Stadium Return After Decades

“It was Bumrah’s first match of the season, and RCB was playing MI—my daughter and I love both teams,” says Mitu. Her cousin, One Tip One Hand podcast host Dhananjay Chak, helped her get tickets. “It was the least I could do for my cricket-wild daughter.”

The atmosphere was electric, she recalls. “Bumrah bowling to Virat—that was the moment. You stop cheering for a team and start cheering for cricket. It gave me goosebumps.”

From Fan to Player

Mitu hasn’t just been watching cricket—she’s been playing it too. She recently joined her daughter’s school’s parent team, then played in her society’s Palm Premier League (PPL). She even won her first-ever ‘Player of the Match’ award.

Unfortunately, that high was followed by injury. “I’d just recovered from a fracture. Then I slipped and broke my wrist again,” she says. Still, her passion stays strong. “Cricket is my first love. It makes me feel alive.”

Turning Passion Into Storytelling

Mitu is also working on a cricket-based show, Pitch Bhi Meri, centered on a woman cricketer. “When you write from the heart, it rarely goes wrong. I know this one will be a cult show,” she shares.

Despite a packed work schedule, cricket remains a constant. “It’s the perfect break. The sound of bat meeting ball? Music to my ears.”

Cheering Across Teams and Generations

This season, Mitu is rooting for four teams—RCB, Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, and Lucknow Super Giants (a nod to her hometown). Her cricket heroes range from legends like Gavaskar and Dravid to current stars like Bumrah, Siraj, and Shubman Gill.

But her favorite moment? Hearing her daughter say: “One day, Mamma, you’ll see me play on these grounds.” Mitu smiles, “That felt like life coming full circle.”

Girls in Cricket: Then and Now

“When I was a kid, girls playing cricket was rare,” she says. “Now, young girls can dream of a career in cricket—and no one questions it. That’s beautiful to see.”
