The Delhi High Court has turned down an urgent hearing on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought to halt or regulate the release of the upcoming Bollywood film The Taj Story. The court’s decision now clears the path for the movie’s nationwide release on October 31.
The PIL, filed by advocate Shakeel Abbas and BJP leader Rajnish Sing, alleged that the film distorts key historical facts related to the Taj Mahal. It claimed this could potentially ignite communal tension across the country. Furthermore, the petition named the Union of India, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), and the film’s creators—producer CA Suresh Jha, director Tushar Amrish Goel, writer Saurabh M. Pandey, and actor Paresh Rawal—as respondents. It also demanded disclaimers and preventive measures to avoid public unrest, especially in Agra. This claim said the movie relies on speculation rather than verified history.
However, the Delhi High Court refused to expedite the plea. They stated that the case would proceed as per standard judicial procedure. As a result, the ruling ensures that The Taj Story will hit theatres on schedule.
In response to the legal challenge, director Tushar Amrish Goel asserted that the film is rooted in factual research rather than conjecture. He remarked that The Taj Story was the product of six months of detailed study, expert consultation, and verified historical references. Moreover, he highlighted that the CBFC examined every aspect of the film before granting approval. “Our film is built on truth and research, not on rumors or imagination. We truly appreciate the court’s decision to stand with creative freedom,” Goel stated.
Likewise, producer CA Suresh Jha dismissed the PIL as entirely baseless. He emphasized that the team created the film with honesty, responsibility, and deep respect for India’s rich heritage. In his words, “Our intention is not to divide people but to inspire curiosity, dialogue, and awareness about history.”
Meanwhile, as public debate grows over the balance between historical accuracy and artistic freedom, The Taj Story continues to attract significant attention ahead of its release. Starring acclaimed actors Paresh Rawal, Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sneha Wagh, and Namit Das, the film promises a thought-provoking narrative. It revisits the Taj Mahal’s legacy through a research-driven lens. Additionally, with music composed by Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dev Nath, the movie combines emotional storytelling. It provides a bold exploration of India’s cultural depth and historical identity.
