Excel Entertainment, in collaboration with Chalkboard Entertainment and Suitable Pictures, has achieved a significant milestone with the selection of their film ‘Boong’ for the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
‘Boong’ narrates the heartfelt journey of a young boy from Manipur, determined to surprise his mother with the ultimate gift. In his innocence, he believes that reuniting his family by bringing his father back home will be the most special gift. This touching search leads to an unexpected outcome, symbolizing a new beginning.
The film marks the directorial debut of Lakshmipriya Devi, a seasoned First Assistant Director known for her work on acclaimed Indian productions like Luck by Chance, Talaash, PK, and A Suitable Boy. Devi’s inspiration to direct ‘Boong’ stemmed from her personal experiences, seeking closure from a challenging part of her childhood in Manipur. This deeply personal narrative organically developed, reflecting her roots in the northeastern region of India.
‘Boong’ will premiere in the Discovery section at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival, scheduled from September 5-15, 2024.
