FX has given an official straight-to-series order for a live-action TV series adaptation of Ubisoft’s bestselling Far Cry video game franchise. The series is co-created and executive produced by veterans Noah Hawley, FX vet of the award-winning series Fargo and Alien: Earth, and Rob Mac, star and creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, who also executive produces and stars in season one. The series will debut on Hulu in the U.S. and on Disney+ internationally, and it will have an anthology structure much like the games, with new casts and settings in each subsequent season.
The Far Cry series will follow an anthological approach, much like the games, in which each season introduces a new story, setting, and characters. Noah Hawley addressed how this setup mirrors the shifts in theme within the gaming franchise and opens up multiple avenues for the show to express chaos, violence, and morality. The plot of the first season is still a secret, but it will have the signature mix of action, dark humor, and moral complexity that fans expect from the brand.
Rob Mac brings his comedic and acting expertise, while Noah Hawley brings a strong storytelling vision with layering in narratives and cinematic style. FX Entertainment’s president, Nick Grad, praised their partnership by highlighting that the duo has worked across six series with 32 seasons of television on FX. Ubisoft executives are also on board as executive producers to ensure faithfulness to the legacy of the franchise.
Far Cry will stream on Hulu in the U.S. and on Disney+ internationally. An official release date has not been announced, but the series is positioned to be one of the big new offerings on FX in 2026, powered by a mix of action, drama, and dark comedy courtesy of its experienced creators.
