After winning hearts with its quirky humor and unique setup, the comedy series Zyada Mat Udd has officially wrapped. Actor Gaurav Amlani, who played the lovable Anees Rizvi, shared his thoughts on bidding farewell to the show that broke the daily soap mold on Indian TV.

A Sitcom That Broke the Rules

Unlike most Indian TV shows, Zyada Mat Udd was a finite series—and a refreshing one at that. “When I first read the script, I knew this one was different,” says Gaurav. “It mixed Western-style sitcoms with our Bollywood flavor.”

Initially planned as a web series, the show later shifted to television. “We had months of script readings. That rarely happens in TV. It felt more like working on a web series or film,” he adds.

Between Kurla Streets and the Skies

Playing Anees, a street-smart guy from Kurla who becomes a flight attendant, was a unique experience for Amlani. “He didn’t fit the typical profile. A three-piece suit, polished English, and a whole lot of heart—it made the character fun to play.”

The role also pushed Gaurav to learn new things. “I picked up ventriloquism and got deep into desi rap. Before this, I only knew Gully Boy. But the underground scene in India is something else.”

More Than Just a Show

What will Gaurav miss the most? “The people. The bonds. And yes, that cabin crew uniform,” he smiles. “You don’t want projects like this to end.”

Hope for Season 2?

While the journey ends for now, Amlani hints at more to come. “Let’s see what the future holds. Maybe Zyada Mat Udd will return for Season 2.”
