The top-seeded Georgia Bulldogs roared to victory over the third-ranked TCU Horned Frogs, in a stunning 65-7 win during the 2022-23 CFP National Championship held on Monday, January 9.
The match saw the Bulldogs take an early lead with 10 points, only to be briefly challenged by a touchdown from the Horned Frogs. Nevertheless, the momentum remained firmly in Georgia’s favor as they stacked up an impressive 55 points to seal the game. With their performance, Georgia carved their name in the history books, setting a record for the highest score, as well as the largest victory margin, in a BCS or CFP title match.
The spotlight shone brightly on Stetson Bennett, who equaled the College Football Playoff record with an exceptional display of six touchdowns, comprising four passing and two rushing. The Bulldogs’ offensive machinery churned out an impressive 615 total yards.
Their defensive prowess was equally commendable, holding TCU to a mere 36 rushing yards and forcing three turnovers. The credit for these turnovers goes to defensive back Javon Bullard.
This victory elevated Georgia to an elite status, making them the first team to clinch back-to-back championships in the College Football Playoff era. The last team to accomplish this feat was Alabama during the 2011 and 2012 seasons in the BCS era.
