Oscar-nominated actor Guy Pearce, known for The Brutalist, has issued a public apology after posting antisemitic content on his social media account as he expressed support for Palestine.
Pearce reportedly posted material related to far-right figure Nick Fuentes, including claims about Jewish ownership of pornography companies, Israel ties to 9/11, and other conspiracy theories. He also shared posts from an account alleging Zionist control of Las Vegas casinos and anti-Israel narratives. These posts drew backlash from groups like Campaign Against Antisemitism, which called them classic antisemitic tropes despite acknowledging the apology.
In a statement to Jewish News, Pearce explained, “I inadvertently posted articles and/or statements containing misinformation and lies,” promising more online discretion. The Campaign Against Antisemitism said that they “will be watching for actual change”; it called on Pearce’s partners to similarly monitor Pearce’s actions.
Pearce has shown pro-Palestine support before, wearing a “Free Palestine” pin at the Oscars to a Palestinian flag at Cannes 2024; the latter was photoshopped out by Vanity Fair France, drawing his ire. The incident adds to a history of controversy over statements on hot-button global issues.
