Harry and Meghan Hit a Major Snag: Netflix Movie Projects Are Stuck in Limbo Because of Deal Uncertainty

Reports say that the highly anticipated Netflix movie adaptations of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s books are stuck without directors or casts, which makes it less likely that they will be finished. This news is another blow to the Sussexes’ Archewell Productions, and people close to the projects are wondering what will happen next.

Netflix paid about $3 million for the rights to adapt Carley Fortune’s romance novel Meet Me at the Lake, but not much has happened since the announcement in August 2023. The recent adaptation of Jasmine Guillory’s “The Wedding Date,” which was revealed in late 2025, is also still in limbo with no news on important hires. Hollywood insiders are upset and say that these kinds of delays are not common for Netflix projects at this stage.

The couple’s original deal with Netflix, which was worth $100 million over several years and was signed in 2020, ended in 2025. They then switched to a first-look agreement that was less profitable. Archewell has made docuseries like Harry & Meghan and Heart of Invictus, but making scripted movies is a new challenge for them. Some people think these movies might never happen, especially since the streaming giant’s priorities are always changing.
