Imtiaz Ali, one of India’s most celebrated directors, recently spoke about the making of his iconic film Jab We Met on Komal Nahta’s Game Changers podcast. Known for his unique storytelling, Ali shared behind-the-scenes insights into the film and the character of Geet, played by Kareena Kapoor.
The Inspiration Behind Geet’s Character
Imtiaz Ali explained how he visualized Geet even before casting. “When I write, I have a clear image of the character’s body language, though her face isn’t always clear,” Ali shared. “I imagined her speaking with a specific style and wearing yellow, saying ‘I’m running away.’ It was all a hazy vision, but when you meet the right person, you know if they fit.”
Kareena Kapoor: Ali’s First Choice for Geet
Ali revealed that Kareena Kapoor was always his top choice for the role of Geet. “I always wanted Kareena for this role,” he said. “At first, she wasn’t interested, but eventually, she came on board, and it worked out perfectly.”

Kareena Kapoor’s portrayal of Geet became a defining moment in her career, capturing hearts with her vibrant, free-spirited performance. Ali’s vision for the character, combined with Kareena’s unique energy, made the film a timeless classic.
