Jaya Bhattacharya

Renowned for her compelling performances, Jaya Bhattacharya has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema and television. From iconic films like Devdas and Mimi to beloved TV shows such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Thapki Pyaar Ki, Jaya has consistently proven her versatility and talent. Now, she is poised to enchant audiences once again in Sun Neo’s latest show, Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya.

In this new family drama, Jaya portrays Urmila, the complex stepmother of the male lead Kartik, played by Aashish Dixit. Known for her powerful negative roles, Jaya recently opened up about why she chose to step back from acting for seven years.

“It feels like the word ‘Negative’ is written on my forehead,” Jaya shared. “After my role as Payal in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi became famous, I kept getting similar offers. I began to doubt my abilities and questioned if I could play other roles. That’s why I took a break for seven years. I wanted to play diverse roles that bring joy and satisfaction to an artist. When actors are given the chance to experiment, it enhances their performances and keeps them engaged.”

She added, “If the same roles are repeated, actors can get bored. There should be some variety in the characters we play on screen. I’m thrilled to be part of Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, where I get to explore a new character.”

Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya is a touching family drama centred on Vaishnavi, an orphan who worships Chhathi Maiyya as her mother. Featuring Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Sara Khan, Vrinda Dahal, and Aashish Dixit, the show highlights the power of faith and the victory of good over evil. It marks the first depiction of Chhathi Maiyya on Hindi television, a goddess revered in Bihar and UP.

Catch Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya on Sun Neo, airing Monday to Saturday at 7 PM. Tune in to witness Jaya Bhattacharya’s compelling return to the screen.
