Jordan Shipley, 40, was a star wide receiver for the Texas Longhorns and the NFL. On January 6, 2026, a machine he was working on at his ranch near Burnet, Texas, caught fire and burned more than 20% of his body. He got away, but a ranch worker drove him to a nearby hospital before he was flown to Austin, where he is still in critical but stable condition. His family says he is having surgeries, and there are risks like infections and pneumonia.
Shipley’s brother Jaxon asked people to pray on Instagram, saying that God’s grace saved his life. Father Bob Shipley said that infections are still a threat after surgery. The family, which includes wife Sunny and two young sons, just spent Christmas together.
Shipley was a star receiver for the Texas Longhorns from 2006 to 2009. He set records with 248 catches and 3,191 yards, as well as special teams returns. The Cincinnati Bengals picked him in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played for the Bengals, Buccaneers, and Jaguars until 2014, catching 78 passes. Now he and his brother Jaxon own Shipley Ranches brokerage.
